Making cheese with human skin microbes

Cheese created using the skin microbes of  humans

When I first saw the title of my article "Cheese created using the skin microbes of humans" I was a little grossed out. The article is about how there is cheese that has been made out of the skin microbes in humans but it also confirms that this type of cheese is not for eating but just for smelling. The main idea is just to tell us about how you can use any type of bacteria and microbes to make cheese even if it in not edible. There are not too many details in the article  it really just tells me that this I'd really just an experiment with making cheese and how it is usually made from bacteria from plants and animals. The article is very clear on letting us know about how this cheese is made from human skin microbes  and how it is defiantly not made for eating. It does confuse me that cheese is usually made from plants and animal bacteria and since scientists have discovered that we are not that different why is this one not a good idea to eat. I could see not many people wanting to try it but why is it not similar?  Is it because this cheese is made from skin instead of  bacteria?

  1. The first thing I thought of was "is this considered cannibalism?" It would be weird to say that you've ate human skin and how easily that would be confused to legit skin skin. But it's cheese. It's bacteria. Still a weird thought. I also find it funny that someone thought to do this to make a point that cheese is just bacteria and other microbes. Even sniffing it seems like a violation or like you're invading in on someone and sniffing their skin. Another thing I wonder is, how did they come along collecting so much skin microbes?

  2. I haven't seen this topic before; it is a bit bizarre, but interesting!

  3. My first thought after reading this, was, humans are animals, so how is it cheese so different! But after some thinking, I guess they don't use "normal" animal skin to make cheese. Our skin is much different. I find it interesting that the cheese is simply for smelling, just to prove that it's really cheese. In my perspective, I feel as if it should be able to be eaten. Also, you asked a good question at the end. Since the skin microbes are what they're experimenting with, as opposed to bacteria (which is a form of microbe, correct?), then why would it really be so different than actual cheese? If this article is correct, then maybe what distinguishes edible cheese from this kind is the nutritional value that it gives us (or the taste!). Any ways, I'm curious to see how this research continues to pan out in the near future!

  4. This is extremely interesting when I first read it... to think that edible skin cheese gross!!! However bacteria does ferment everything. I immediately remembered a article I read saying that the same bacteria that ferments the cheese in doritos is the same make our feet smell when we sweat. It's pretty disturbing just like this article
